The Future of Making Movies

I read an article recently on how the graphics hardware for PCs now far exceeds the capabilities of game consoles, and several companies demoed their game engines. Have a look, and you can see how entirely computer graphic (CG) movies are only going to get more and more common. The realisism is amazing. I am sure there will still be movies made in the real world, but you can see that there will be times when a director will have a computer-based production because that is the only way to realize his vision.

It also means some changes for actors. If you are wearing a motion capture suit, no one cares what you look like. The way you express yourself in movement and voice will be what is important. Age, race, perhaps even height will be less important, too. A 60 year old can act the part of a 15 year old, or visa versa. There will be a new version of the famous "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog" cartoon, and it say "With motion capture, no one knows what you really look like."

This next video is for game developers, to show them what they can do, but it gives you an idea of the capabilities.
